Original Photography by Devon Close

For just over a year now my dad and I have been adding and subtracting different things out of our 55gallon salt water tank. The fish, corals, and other plant life in it has extensivly grown over the year. It is now fully bloming with all kinds of different creatures. If you dont know I am an inpiering photographer and hope that one day I can become a Underwater Photographer. I have spent hours apon endless hours standing in front of the tank taking hundreds of pictures of the life that lives in it. I see something different every time I look in it. These are just a few samples of my fish tank photos.
PS. the photo above (coral, pulsing xenia) I entered to national Geographic to be published in a book. Suprisingly It got accepted. But unfortunatly I had to be a US citizen to get it published in the book; which I deffinatly am not. So I lucked out

A TRIP TO REMEMBER

I dont know if you have ever head of one, but recently I have gone on a Hero Holiday. the Hero Holiday that I whent on is a 10 day long trip to Mexico. There you get to know other canadian kids, have the best time of your life and change a families life forever by building a house for them. Along the way you will be asking yourself questions that you never knew the answer to until now. When people ask me about it, how it was, there is really no words to describe what it was like. Its different for everyone, but also it more of an emotional experience that even the most poetic people cannot describe in words. when people do ask me about it I usually start by saying "IT WAS AWESOME" but you know it was more than awsome so then I say "It was the best experiance of my life". I guess one way to describr it would be to say that every emotion or slight feeling that you have ever felt before in your life is rapped up into 10 beautiful days.

My hero holiday started for me with a friend. She had previously been on a hero holiday the summer before and had convinced me that what ever decision I made I would not regret it. So being the adventurous person that I am I decided to join on (for what I didnt know at the time) for the best trip of my life. So with a few other friends, we drove our way from Vancouver Island over to Bellingham. From there we Flew to San Diago. In San Diago we were greeted by a big tan guy and a Kewi! I of corse had no idea who they were but my friend did. She opened her arms to them and from that point on I knew I could trust these guys. So time goes on, we meet the rest of the group, get to know each other. The next day We are on the road to Vicente Guerrero, Mexico.

Apon arrival at the house we were asigned to our rooms and told t obe back for dinner and a debreifing. Being new at the hole thing I played along. The next morning we were loading the bus, my camera at the ready, my mind open to possabilities; but I dont thing my mind was really ready for what the next few days would bring me. With some man power we managed to build a house in 4 days. can you emagin that. 4 days out of your life to build a house for a family in need. The single mom that I built for had 6 boys and previously lived in a house no bigger than my dads truck. It was made out of tarps and held together by tree branches and string. Now at this very moment they are living in a 400 square Ft house equipt with food beds a clean kitchen and 4 strong walls and a sturdy roof over their heads. On that dedication day just to see the family so greatful to have such a simple thing, there is something that triggeres a realization in our hearts, mind, and souls.

Dedication day Is the one day on the trip that everyone dreads and hopes simultainousley. Its the day you hand over the keys to the family and give over the house to them. But its also the day you have to say goodbye. Saying goodbye really is the hardest part. But Ill be back soon.
